Manuscript Preparation Guidelines
Before submitting your manuscript, please ensure that it adheres to the following checklist:
-
Review the Aims & Scope: Familiarize yourself with the journal's objectives and determine if your manuscript aligns with its focus.
-
Use the Provided Template: Utilize the Microsoft Word template available for preparing your manuscript.
-
Address Ethical and Copyright Matters: Be certain that you've addressed ethical considerations, copyright issues, authorship attribution, figure formats, data presentation, and reference formatting in your manuscript.
-
Author Approval: Confirm that all co-authors have reviewed and approved the content of the submitted manuscript.
-
Publication Types: The journal accommodates manuscripts of varying lengths, provided they are concise and comprehensive. Ensure that complete experimental details are included for reproducibility. Authors must publish all experimental controls and make datasets available when necessary. Submitted manuscripts should not have been published elsewhere or be under consideration by another journal.
Types of Manuscripts Accepted:
Articles: Original research papers reporting scientifically sound experiments and new information. Authors are encouraged not to unduly split their work into multiple related manuscripts.
Review Articles: These provide succinct updates on recent developments in specific research areas, including systematic reviews following standard guidelines.
Preprints, Case Reports, and Conference Papers: The journal does not publish preprint case reports and conference proceedings. However, high-quality, expanded conference papers can be considered as articles provided they meet specific criteria:
- The paper must be expanded to the size of a regular research article.
- The conference paper should be cited and acknowledged on the first page.
- Authors must obtain appropriate permission from the original copyright holder if they don't hold the copyright.
- Authors should disclose in their cover letter that the submission is based on a conference paper and specify the changes made.
The journal does not publish pilot studies or studies with inadequate statistical power.
Submission Process
To submit your manuscript to IJBSA, follow these steps:
- Access the online submission system at http://ijbsa.com
- The submitting author, typically the corresponding author, should manage the submission and oversee the peer-review process.
- Ensure that all eligible co-authors are listed and have reviewed and approved the submitted version of the manuscript.
- Co-authors can access manuscript details by registering and logging in using the provided email address.
Manuscript Structure
Research manuscripts should be organized as follows:
Front Matter:
- Title: A concise and relevant title, indicating the nature of the study (e.g., trial data, systematic review, meta-analysis).
- Author List and Affiliations: Provide complete names, middle initials, addresses, and email addresses for all authors. Designate a corresponding author and include their contact information.
- Abstract: A single paragraph, structured abstract of no more than 200 words that accurately represents the article. Avoid presenting results not substantiated in the main text and refrain from exaggerating conclusions.
- Headings: Use the following headings: 1) Background, 2) Methods, 3) Results, and 4) Conclusion. Define all abbreviations on first use and maintain consistency throughout.
- Preregistration: Include links to any study or analysis plans that were preregistered.
- Keywords: Provide three to ten pertinent keywords specific to the article's subject discipline.
Research Manuscript Sections:
- Introduction: Contextualize the study, emphasize its importance, define its purpose and hypotheses, and review the current state of the research field with key references.
- Objective of Study: Briefly state the study's main aim and conclusions.
- Literature Review: Include a concise and relevant review of recent literature, citing at least 10 references from the past 5 years.
- Research Methodology and Design: Describe the methods in enough detail for replication. Specify software used and include pre-registration codes where applicable.
- Results: Concisely describe experimental results, interpretations, and conclusions.
- Discussion: Discuss results in the context of prior research and hypotheses, addressing implications and limitations. Mention potential future research directions. This section may be combined with the Results section if appropriate.
- Conclusions (optional): Add this section if the Discussion is particularly extensive or complex.
- Patents (optional): Include if applicable.
- References: Format references according to the latest APA guidelines.
Preparing Figures, Schemes, and Tables:
- Submit Figures and schemes in a single zip archive during manuscript submission, ensuring they have a minimum resolution of 1000 pixels width/height or a resolution of 300 dpi or higher. Preferred formats are JPG, JPEG, EPS, and PDF.
- Include Figures, Schemes, and Tables close to their first citation in the main text, numbering them in order of appearance.
- Provide clear, concise titles and captions for all Figures, Schemes, and Tables in APA format.
- Include explanatory headings for all table columns, using Microsoft Word's table option to create tables.
- Use color for figures and schemes when possible, and note that there's no additional cost for publishing full-color graphics.
- By following these guidelines, you can ensure your manuscript is well-prepared for submission to IJBSA
